RYAN Douglas experienced massive disappointment and frustration as his Testimonial meeting on Saturday was wrecked by the weather.
After a dry day at the Hydroscand Arena, Beaumont Park, the first spots of rain began to fall literally as the riders were making their way out on parade for a 4pm start.
This quickly turned into a deluge, contrary to weather forecasts, and after a short delay it became clear that racing would be impossible. With the track under water the rain duly continued, meaning there would have been no way to rescue the meeting.
Douglas said: “Standing there watching the rain fall just as the bikes were about to hit the track was heartbreaking.
“So much work, time and energy had gone into making the meeting happen – not just from me, but from so many amazing people behind the scenes.
“I wanted nothing more than to put on a great night of racing for everyone who came out to support it.
“That said, rider safety will come before anything else. As difficult as the decision was, it was the right one.”
Supporters are thanked for their patience and understanding, and further information will follow in due course.
The plan is to re-stage the meeting at a later date, and Ryan’s Testimonial committee will be looking at options in conjunction with Leicester Speedway. In the meantime, please keep hold of your admission tickets.
