KEMP: NO-BRAINER TO RETURN

DREW Kemp says there was never any chance of him turning down an unexpected opportunity to link back up with Leicester.

Kemp started last season with the Watling JCB Lions but found himself the victim of a team change approaching the midway point of the campaign, leaving him on the sidelines in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.

However, he continued to clock up big scores for Lions boss Stewart Dickson with Berwick in the Championship, and that has earned him another shot at the top-flight after Craig Cook declared himself unavailable at short notice.

Kemp said: “I don’t think I’ve ever signed up for a team so late, but it’s another opportunity for me to get going.

“Getting into the top league was one of my aims this year, and getting back to Leicester was one of my aims, so I’ve done that.

“Stewart has given me the chance, and now I just need to take it with both hands and show what I’m capable of, which I know I can do.

“It’s a fresh start, there’s no point dwelling on what happened last year, it happened last year at the end of the day.

“When Stewart got in contact with me, he told me about the unfortunate circumstances of Craig, and that was it – he gave me the opportunity, so it was a no-brainer for me.

“I love riding this place, I look forward to coming here every single week when I know we’ve got a home match, so why wouldn’t I take it?

“I’ve simplified everything this year, I’ve got good equipment again, and we can get going like I know I can.”

Kemp was in attendance with the Lions team throughout press and practice on Thursday, and he will also be at this Sunday’s Premiership Media Day at Oxford before taking his place in the team for the KO Cup trip to Birmingham on Monday.
