LEICESTER’S new American star Luke Becker enjoyed a strong performance in weekend international action – as the countdown to the new Premiership campaign continues.
Becker lined up for the USA in their clash with the Rest of the World at Kern Raceway, Bakersfield, and was one of the stand-out riders on the day.
He won his first four rides in the main match, which the USA won 61-52, before coming off in hjs final outing when trying to complete his maximum.
But he made up for that with victory in the individual event which followed, taking the spoils in the Final ahead of Billy Janniro, Max Ruml and Chris Harris.
Becker is now preparing for the start of the European season, and his move to the Watling JCB Lions after the sad winter closure of Wolverhampton’s Monmore Green venue.
However, with Sam Masters and Ryan Douglas also making the switch to the Pidcock Motorcycles Arena, Beaumont Park, Becker won’t be in unknown company – with both reserves Drew Kemp and Joe Thompson also having had spells with Wolves in 2022.
Becker said: “With it being the first time riding for a different club since beginning racing in the UK, it will definitely be a lot easier settling in with some familiar faces around.
“Having a good bond with your team-mates I think is really important to win a title, and I have no doubt all of us boys will get along good together.
“I’m excited for the whole situation and I can’t wait to meet all the Leicester fans and everyone involved in the club.”
The Lions go into action for the first time this season on Thursday March 14 when they face Belle Vue.
