LEICESTER are pleased to report no major injury concerns despite skipper Max Fricke and Ryan Douglas both being forced out of the recent Australian Championships.
Watling JCB Lions manager Stewart Dickson has been in touch with both riders, whose fitness for the start of the UK season in March is not in doubt.
Douglas (pictured) withdrew from his national championship the week before the series began, having suffered damage to his ankle ligaments in a motocross accident.
Fricke, meanwhile, crashed in Round 2 at Mildura which led to him pulling out of that meeting and missing what turned out to be the finale at Albury-Wodonga.
The Lions’ captain, though, should be all fine after a brief period of rest.
Dickson said: “I keep in touch with all my riders over the winter just to make sure they’re okay, and both lads will be fine for the start of the season.
“Max hurt some muscles around his knee when he crashed, but it just needs a few weeks of rest and then he’ll be ready to go.
“Dougy was actually back on a bike on Wednesday having a practice skid, and there were no ill effects, so he’s now fit to ride and he’s feeling fine and looking forward to the season.”
Douglas stages his Testimonial meeting at the Hydroscand Arena, Beaumont Park as the opening event of the season on Saturday March 22 (4pm).
With details of the main field to come soon, he has confirmed that races involving the popular British Youth riders will also form part of the meeting.
Any Testimonial enquiries can be made to dougystestimonial@yahoo.com .
Meanwhile, with the Championship fixture list now confirmed, work is progressing on Leicester’s fixture dates for their meetings in the NDL and NDT, and further news will be available over the coming weeks.
