LEICESTER Speedway are saddened to hear of the passing of top SCB referee and speedway administrator Tony Steele.
Tony was a local man who loved the sport, and who was often in attendance at the Pidcock Motorcycles Arena, Beaumont Park when he was not officiating.
The official statement from the ACU reads as follows:
The ACU, SCB and BSPL are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague Tony Steele.
Tony is best known for being a long standing FIM Grand Prix and SCB Speedway Referee where for many years he was a familiar figure. As a senior FIM Track Racing Commission member, ACU Vice President, Chairman of the Track Racing Commission and Bureau member of the Speedway Control Bureau, Tony worked tirelessly behind the scenes as a much-respected member of the ACU, SCB and FIM Track Racing family. His contribution and loss to the sport he loved is immeasurable.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to Tony’s family and friends and this very sad and difficult time.
