LIONS TO HOST ELITE BEES

The Lions will open their season at Beaumont Park on Saturday 16th March with a visit from their near neighbours the Coventry Bees who will race for the East Midlands Bowl.

The competition was the traditional season opener between the two clubs that followed through to the last era of the Lions.

Leicester Promoter David Hemsley had this to say: "It is great to resurrect the East Midlands Bowl competition and the traditional rivalry from these two clubs who are full of history. This will be the first time in the modern era of Leicester Speedway that the two teams have come face to face on a full 1 to 7 basis and it is fantastic we have that opportunity here at Leicester. It is an excellent way to start our 2013 campaign, and it continues to demonstrate that Leicester Speedway is fully committed to operating at the highest level of competition. We look forward to the Grand Prix stars such as Krzysztof Kasprzak and British Champion Scott Nicholls gracing our shale and I am sure the supporters will turn out in force to support the Lions and the Bees when the oldest Midland's derby of them all recommences on 16th March."

Coventry will be at full strength apart from Adam Roynon who will be making his debut for the Lions against his parent club that night so the Bees will be tracking a guest for as a replacement.

"No doubt this is a mouth watering opener for both Coventry and Leicester. This meeting will generate a big crowd and will give Leicester a real test against the mighty Bees. Our relationship is very good with Leicester and I am more than happy to take this challenge, We will be at full strength and this meeting will give the boys a chance to brush off the cobwebs. I think the Leicester promotion have done a great job with the club and I certainly hope they will join us in the top flight for 2014", commented Mick Horton, Coventry Promoter.
