LIONS V BELLE VUE (EL) - PREVIEW

In speedway circles the Belle Vue Aces are known the world over and the Manchester club are this week’s visitors to the Jordan Road Surfacing Stadium.

Jason Attwood, the former Lions Team Manager, has named the same side that beat Poole on Monday. The current Elite League Champions were rocked by three consecutive maximum scores in a barn storming finish by the Aces who ended the match winners by 51 points to 39. The visitors have started the season with comprehensive home wins over Leicester, Wolverhampton and Poole and on the road they drew 45 points apiece at Wolverhampton last month.

Only Matej Zagar and Craig Cook remain from the 2013 team, as the Aces management have moved the pendulum from having just one British rider last year to currently five and with it a promising combination that is hoped will bring the good days back to the Manchester club.

Meanwhile, the Rapid Solicitors Lions Team Manager Norrie Allan has been scouring the list of eligible riders available to guest for the club on Saturday. With Peter Ljung still unfit from his crash at Leicester in the match against Eastbourne, Sam Masters, who deputised for him at King’s Lynn on Wednesday, keeps his place. With Simon Stead ruled out of the meeting due to a fixture clash with his Premier League club the Sheffield Tigers, Allan has engaged the former Lions rider Lasse Bjerre as his replacement and Birmingham’s Ben Barker comes into the side at number five to cover for the absence of Patrick Hougaard who broke a thumb last month.

“Our options have been limited for Saturday as there are so many fixtures with riders committed elsewhere. It is bad enough finding two replacements for Ljung and Hougaard but we have also had to contend with losing Simon Stead. Sheffield are at Berwick in the cup and whenever there is a fixture clash the Premier League club have priority over him but I believe that we have come up with the best possible guests available on the night” commented the Lions Team Manager, Norrie Allan.
