LIONS V POOLE (EL) - PREVIEW

Leicester will complete their Elite League fixtures for the season with the visit of the Poole Pirates to the Jordan Road Surfacing Stadium on Wednesday.

The defending champions have had another successful year and irrespective of the result against the Lions the Pirates have qualified for a place in the semi-finals of the play-offs and bid to add a sixth Elite League title to their list of achievements, a figure that ranks them as the most successful team in the history of the competition since its inception in 1997.

“Matches don’t come any harder than this one and after two home reverses against Swindon and then King’s Lynn last week we owe our fans a win. Poole have chosen two very good guests who know our track inside out so we will have to be at our very best” said the Lions Team Manager Norrie Allan.

When these two teams last met nearly a month ago the Rapid Solicitors Lions pulled off a draw in the very last race and face the defending Elite League Champions without Mads Korneliussen who was axed on Sunday after missing the Lions match at Belle Vue last week. The captain’s armband has been passed to Simon Stead who fulfils the same role for Sheffield in the Premier League.

Poole are without their mercurial captain Darcy Ward who is serving a suspension following a failed breath test at the Latvian Grand Prix and is currently waiting for news over his FIM International Disciplinary Court appearance. It has been a huge blow to the Australian and Poole who are coping without him by the use of rider replacement or a guest at number one in the side.

Also missing are Vaclav Milik who picked up an injury in the home fixture against Eastbourne last week and Przemyslaw Pawlicki who has been out of the side since injuring his collarbone in a fall at Leicester. The Pirates have called upon two Swindon riders Nick Morris and Dakota North who both scored heavily on their last visit to Leicester.
