SWINDON moved closer to the Elite League play-offs with a 51-39 win over Leicester at the Abbey Stadium.
It was the Robins’ first match as a team since the serious injuries suffered by Darcy Ward, and boss Alun Rossiter paid tribute to a professional effort in difficult circumstances.
Grzegorz Zengota (13+1) top-scored for the home side and was only denied a maximum by the Lions’ top scorer Jason Doyle (13) in Heat 15.
Rossiter said: “It was a good victory under the circumstances, and a professional job done by the boys. I’m really proud of them all because that was hard, even for the away team, and I know that from speaking to Jason Doyle.
“I said to the lads beforehand that I wasn’t going to do the corny thing of saying ‘do it for Darcy’ but what I did say is that we needed to remember how much he’s lifted the club since he’s been here, and don’t let that be in vain.”
