KIM Nilsson has no intention of loosening his grip on Leicester’s number one race jacket as Premiership clubs prepare for a new set of averages.
The Swede leads the Lions in their fourth home fixture of the campaign against Rye House on Monday (2pm) having set the standard so far.
Nilsson has finished in the top two in 22 of his 32 league races to date and is relishing the task of fronting the pack on a permanent basis.
“The club has been great,” said Nilsson, who switched to Beaumont Park for 2017 after a six-year stint with Lakeside. “They have relied on and trusted me to come in as a number one.
“Your first season doing that at the top level is tough but I think I am doing as much can and hope everyone can see I am doing my best.
“I am happy with my season so far and just want to keep it going. Of course, I want to improve but things have been okay up to now.
“In the past I have been a bit slower at the start of the season so hopefully, this good start is actually as bad as it gets and I can really push on later in the year.
“My target is to improve my average and keep the number-one race jacket. That means a lot to me and if I score well, that will mean I am helping to push Leicester on.”
Both teams are at full strength for the Bank Holiday showdown which could see Lions climb off the foot of the table should they overcome a Rockets side that has yet to register a point in four away outings.
