KING LEADS LIONS TO BUMPER WIN

DYNAMITE Danny King inspired Leicester to a brilliant first leg win at Sheffield.

The promotion / relegation race-off is set for the Watling JCB Lions to preserve their Premiership status after a stunning all-round display in the 58-32 win at Owlerton.

King notched 13+2 alongside classy reserve Kyle Newman to lead from the front.

He was beaten for the first time in Heat 13 and to Sheffield's credit they never gave up.

Said King: "I'm really pleased for Leicester because Sheffield is a tough place to go.

"I felt good out there - the track suited me and it was enjoyable to go out there.

"Everything was right for me and the boys were brilliant. We worked hard as a team.

"It's so far, so good for us and we want to get the job done at home next Monday."

Leicester took control of the meeting from the opening Heat and were 9-3 until after a Heat 2 maximum.

Lasse Bjerre, a popular rider during his season with Leicester; was the pick of the Tigers riders who kept plugging away.

Todd Kurtz pulled off the best race of the night from a Sheffield perspective in Heat 8 when he went wide and got some drive to pass the impressive Newman in spectacular style.

Despite the one-sided score there was no faulting Sheffield's effort and Josh Bates and Newman had a ding-dong in Heat 9 before Scott Nicholls and Kurtz battled for the minor placings and a 3-3 behind brilliant King in Heat 10.

Bjerre put in a superb ride in Heat 12 to pass the impressive Cameron Heeps but this was pure consolation as the meeting was already won by the rampant Lions.

Lewis Kerr crashed spectacularly in his third outing for Leicester and didn't take his last ride but it is thought this was just a precaution.

SHEFFIELD 32: Lasse Bjerre 12, Todd Kurtz 6+1, Scott Nicholls 5, Jan Graversen 5, Josh Bates 4, Georgie Wood 0, Kyle Howarth r/r.

LEICESTER 58: Danny King 13+2, Kyle Newman 13+2, Kim Nilsson 13+1, Cameron Heeps 11+1, Erik Riss 5+1, Lewis Kerr 3, Pawel Przedpelski r/r.
