LEICESTER reach the halfway stage of their WSRA National Development League campaign when they host the Sheffield Tiger Cubs on Sunday (3pm).
The Lion Cubs have made the perfect start to the campaign with four wins out of four, and they will look to extend their 100 per cent record in what is their penultimate home fixture.
New averages are in force on Sunday which means that there is a change of riding order, with both Luke Crang and Sonny Springer moving out of the reserve berths after their impressive starts to the season.
Springer takes over at No.2 alongside skipper Joe Thompson whilst Crang joins Tom Spencer in the middle-order. Arran Butcher and Vinnie Ford move to reserve, despite both riders themselves having made significant gains to their averages in the opening four matches.
The visitors are a joint team representing Sheffield and Scunthorpe, and they take on the Tiger Cubs name for this fixture.
Their top three of Nathan Ablitt, Luke Harrison and Ace Pijper are all regulars in the Championship, whilst at No.3 Mickie Simpson was a title-winner with the Lion Cubs in 2022.
There is one change for the visitors with Stene Pijper out with a broken scaphoid, and the visitors bring in Harry McGurk – who scored nine points at the Pidcock Motorcycles Arena, Beaumont Park for his regular club Belle Vue last week – to guest at reserve.
Lion Cubs boss Dave Howard said: “Our focus will be to get another win, as after this meeting we will have just one home match left and four away.
“So this is vital in our push to move further ahead at the top of the NDL.
“It will be a big meeting against a strong Sheffield/Scunthorpe team as we try to stay unbeaten and to push for the NDL title.”
An added bonus for supporters on the day is six extra races to enjoy after the NDL clash with another fixture in the Midland Development League, as Leicester take on the Birmingham Buffaloes.
Gates open at 1.30pm with a reminder that Lions season ticket holders can gain entry for just £6. Regular prices are adults £14, concessions £12 and children aged 6-17 £1.
