GRAND PRIX superstar Martin Vaculik will make his Leicester debut in a sensational head-to-head with World Champion Jason Doyle at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena on Monday (7.30).
The Slovakian signed up for the Lions, his first UK team, in a bid to take his career “up a level” after three impressive GP campaigns.
But his credentials will get the sternest possible early test against new Somerset No 1 Doyle who romped to the World Championship title last October.
Vaculik, 27, admitted: “I’m very happy to be at Leicester. This is obviously a very tough start but this is why I want to race in the UK.
“I spoke to lots of people and there was a feeling that this track will help my racing style, it would be good for my career.
“We have a good team and I’m delighted team boss Simon Stead will be there too because we already have a good relationship.
“All the tracks in England are very different to Europe, this will be important for my racing and to gain extra experience.”
Vaculik, married to stunning Czech actress Kristina Turjanova, has had a busy winter with a new baby son and intensive fitness training.
But he admits he is happy to now swap nappies for GPs.
He added: “It’s been a hard winter, very busy with the new baby, apartment and obviously the fitness.
“The children are extra responsibility and of course an inspiration. They take away your energy but also give it back in another way. It is like they made you tired physically but mentally they give you so much more.
“It will be tough to be away from the family again when the season is back so soon. I have a good family set-up. But perhaps it is nice to get back to cleaning bikes and not nappies!
“The training process is difficult but I like it. I like the speedway life and how I need to be dedicated. I cycle, I go to gym, it’s good but hard.”
