RYE HOUSE 25 LIONS 23, ABANDONED

LEICESTER boss Simon Stead was keen to look at the positives after their Premiership opener at Rye House was abandoned after eight heats.

The Watling JCB Lions were trailing 25-23 in tricky conditions at Hoddesdon when the meeting was called to a halt before a result could be reached.

It means they will face the trek down to Hertfordshire again later in the season - but Stead admits that may not be a bad thing despite the frustration of another unfinished fixture.

“It’s obviously frustrating,” Stead said. “We’re all battling the weather at the moment, but it was at least a chance to get a few laps under our belt.

“It was a bit of practice for us and we were keeping it tight at the point it was called off, so there were positives and we know what we’ve got to work on.

“The good thing is we go back there knowing a little bit more about the place and we get a second bite of the cherry I suppose.

“For the time being we move onto tomorrow’s trip to Swindon, and we’ll hopefully get that one finished and get some points on the board.”

The Lions now head to Swindon tomorrow (Thursday, 7.30) to take on the reigning champions, with Paul Starke coming in as a guest for unavailable new signing Michael Palm Toft.

RYE HOUSE 25: Aaron Summers 5+1, Krzysztof Kasprzak 5+1, Stuart Robson 4+1, Edward Kennett 4, Scott Nicholls 4, Chris Harris 3, Max Clegg 0.

LEICESTER 23: Michael Palm Toft 7, Hans Andersen 6, Kyle Newman 4+2, Danny King 4, James Sarjeant 2, Martin Vaculik 0, Krystian Pieszczek 0.
