KING INJURY LATEST

LEICESTER skipper Danny King appears to have escaped serious injury in a crash at Ipswich on Thursday.

King was collected by team-mate Michael Hartel in the first race of the Witches’ KO Cup tie with Lakeside, and was taken to hospital with fears he had suffered a badly broken left arm.

X-rays, however, have presented a brighter picture with the news that there appear to be no breaks – although King has suffered soft tissue damage.

The Watling JCB Lions’ captain does face some time out of the saddle and requires further X-rays to assess the full extent of the injury, but he is hopeful that with physiotherapy he could return to racing by the end of the month.

Fortunately, the Lions face a relatively quiet period in terms of league fixtures, with their next Premiership outing not until May 21 – and the bulk of their league campaign takes place after the early-June break for the Speedway of Nations.

King will, however, miss the KO Cup quarter-final against King’s Lynn, with the sides meeting at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena in the first leg on Bank Holiday Monday (7.30pm).

Lions bosses are currently assessing their options for cover, with all Premiership teams in action on the day, although not all of them race in the evening.
