LEICESTER Speedway stars past and present will be on hand for the club to celebrate their 90th anniversary on Monday.
A glittering list of former Lions favourites has already been assembled for the final home Premiership clash of the season against Somerset.
Ray Wilson, who represented England at World Team Cup level in the 70s, has accepted an invitation – and current World Champion Jason Doyle, a former Lions favourite, will be in action for Somerset.
Other names from the past to confirm their attendance are Norman Hunter, Graham Plant, Mick Bell, Keith White, Vic White, Colin Meredith, Chris Sully and David Needham. More names are expected to be added during the weekend.
Watling JCB Lions bosses have also revealed there will be a special mini junior meeting at 7pm featuring youngsters representing Leicester Lions and Leicester Hunters. They’ll be wearing special retro race jackets which will be up for auction during the interval.
Co-promoter Neil Machin said: “The actual date of the first speedway meeting in Leicester is next Thursday but Monday is the closest date for a meeting to that.
“This is why we have gone for a night of celebration and we hope to see a big crowd down here to see riders from the past, present and future in Jacob Clayton, Jordan Palin and Dan and Joe Thompson.
“We’re also brining the curtain down on our home season with a firework spectacular at the end as we head towards the winter.
“I’d urge all Leicester fans to get along for one last taste of Premiership racing this year and to enjoy the 90th anniversary.”
