CLUB MASCOT Max James has been handed a chance to make history at European level as he heads to Poland this weekend.
British youngster James will compete in the European 125cc Youth Track Racing Cup Final which is staged at the 15,000 seater purpose built MotoArena in ToruĊ.
With no winners in the competition’s 15 year history, James will be hoping to become the first British winner of the event as he tests his abilities against some of the top junior riders across Europe.
James said: ‘’I see it as an opportunity to gain experience of racing on circuits outside of the UK and to test myself against different riders than those I meet on a regular basis over here.’’
The competition is open to riders up to the age of 16 and having only turned 12 earlier this month, the Leicester mascot will be at a physical disadvantage compared to his more senior opponents.
‘’There is a big physical difference between the ages but that doesn’t worry me,’’ he added.
‘’I will be doing everything that I can to score points in every race.
‘’I will also get the chance to practice the day before the event which will be time well spent as it will help me get used to track conditions and give me a good idea of the best lines to take.’’
After starting the season in fine form winning 21 heats out of a possible 24 in the season long British Youth Championships - the locally born rider heads into the event on the back of a personal best, round six victory at King's Lynn last Sunday.
Everybody at the club sends their best wishes to Max and looks forward to keeping a close eye on his progress in Europe.
Leicester are next in action at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena this Tuesday as the Cubs take on Plymouth in the National League.
Championship action returns to Beaumont Park on Saturday July 27 in a crucial top of the table clash against Glasgow.
