LEICESTER CONFIRM NATIONAL FINAL DATES

LEICESTER’S first national final in the modern era will take place next month.

They’ll be up against Eastbourne in the Championship Shield Final over two days, September 14 and 15.

The first leg is in Sussex on Saturday September 14 at 7.30 with the return at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena, Beaumont Park the following day at 5pm.

Watling JCB Lions are proud of their achievement in reaching the final – but boss Stewart Dickson is in it to win it.

“It’s a massive moment for Leicester Speedway,” he said. “It’s a shot at silverware and a national title and we would love to achieve that for the Leicester fans and sponsors.

“We’ll do all we can to achieve that but we know what a tough test it will be in the first leg when we head down to Arlington.

“It should be a tremendous occasion for both clubs and it’s great to see the final not being put back or overshadowed by end of season play offs.

“I hope both clubs get a fantastic turn out for their respective clubs, and I can’t wait.

“I love the atmosphere a cup final brings and it should be a wonderful occasion, make no mistake we will be giving it our all as we have done all season, to bring silverware to the Leicester public.”

Leicester are also in the play-off picture with a shot at the league title on the line – and their league programme continues at home this Saturday, August 10 (7.30).

The Watling JCB Lions face Scunthorpe, including showman Danny Ayres who won new fans at the British Final with once race promoted by BT Sport to over six million people.

Said Dickson: “We have to keep picking up the points and get to where we need to be.

“Home meetings are the key, we rode well against Sheffield at the weekend and we need to keep that going on Saturday night.”
