LEICESTER’S Dan Thompson is on the recovery trail after a health scare last week.
The 15-year-old local favourite, who will make his debut for the Watling JCB Lions when the 2020 season gets underway, was hospitalised last Thursday and had surgery to remove his appendix.
Thankfully he was able to return home within 48 hours of the operation, although he has been told to rest from sport for up to six weeks – which is somewhat easier under the current circumstances!
Speaking to Speedway Star magazine, Dan said: “It was very unexpected, and I’m glad to have come through it now. I’m resting every day but I feel better already after having it done, so that’s a positive.
“They took very good care of me in hospital and they were taking all the right precautions for all the time I was there.
“I’ve been told six weeks without any sport, but it’s doubtful there will be any speedway anyway for a few months yet, so I’ve got plenty of time, and as long as I’m ready for the season whenever it comes around then I’ll be fine.”
Dan’s unusual week is the subject of an in-depth feature in the second issue of Leicester’s delay ‘programme’ which is on sale from Friday (April 3) for publication over Easter.
After the response to the experimental first issue last month, club bosses have given the green light to continue as on-track speedway affairs remain in hold.
