CLUB STATEMENT

LEICESTER speedway remain determined to give themselves every chance of staging Championship racing this season.

The club have noted and respect Glasgow’s decision to rule themselves out of the league but Leicester will press on in accordance with government regulations.

We are in no way ignoring the health of sponsors, riders, track staff and spectators and will only open our doors when it is safe and legal to do so.

Watling JCB Lions boss and co-promoter Stewart Dickson, who led his side to well deserved title glory against his former club Glasgow last season, said: “We at Leicester have a much larger capacity than most tracks in our league and have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to accommodate our supporters in a safe and sensible manner should we get the green light.

“Our aim since returning to the championship is to be the best team in this division both on and off the track, something I believe we achieved last season.

“We were the biggest supported club in the championship last season and that is something we want to build on in the near future but only when the sport’s authorities allow.

“We appreciate that our supporters, like many other clubs, wish to see our wonderful sport returning later this summer.

“We are grateful to Tony Steele for keeping all clubs up to date from his ACU (Auto Cycle Union) conference calls and their plans for speedway returning when it is allowed and when it is safe for our cherished fan base.

“It is no secret that the majority of Championship clubs are targeting an August return date to speedway, this will only happen when the sport’s governing body ( ACU ) confirm it is safe to do so and in line with all the announcements and instructions we have received from them so far.”
