DANYON Hume is keeping his fingers crossed for some National League action with Leicester this season.
With the professional leagues now postponed for the year, hopes are high for grassroots racing with restricted crowd numbers.
The club are awaiting further news on prospects for the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena to reopen following the localised lockdown in the city.
Said Hume: “With the season now officially off for the Premiership and Championship, I’m waiting to hear from Leicester to see if they will be able to run a few meetings at National League level.
“From what I’m reading a few teams who should have been in the league won’t be staging any speedway this season now so I’m not sure what will happen if anything.
“All the riders will have to look for some sort of employment now I guess to get some income to pay bills but it won’t be easy.
“I guess though there are many people worse off than us riders so we will have to get our heads down and work hard to find something before next March.”
Meanwhile it has been confirmed that Watling JCB Lions duo Dan and Joe Thompson will take their place in the British Youth Championship at Scunthorpe on Sunday week, August 9.
Also included in the field are the McGurk brothers, Harry and Sam, Jordan Palin and Elliot Kelly.
The action starts at 5pm and tickets must be ordered online at the Scunthorpe Speedway website.
Leicester Speedway’s social media team will be on hand to provide regular updates from the meeting at trackside.
