PLANS IN PLACE FOR LEICESTER

LEICESTER are all set to welcome the next generation of British talent.

Club boss Stewart Dickson has confirmed permission has been granted for private practice sessions to resume at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena with the ultimate aim of some competitive meetings at development level before the end of October.

The GB academy are arranging coaching for the younger riders and successfully held sessions at King’s Lynn last week with triple World Champion Jason Crump.

Now they have asked Leicester to stage sessions and Dickson is only too pleased to go ahead.

“We had to wait until the latest update on the situation in the Leicester area but we have now been given the nod to reopen,” he said.

“It’s step-by-step and we are starting with the British youth riders this weekend and we are pleased to welcome the GB academy as part of the GB speedway team set-up.

“I can confirm we will be doing all we can to stage meetings here at Leicester between now and the end of October. We are looking at some challenge matches at National League standard plus the possibility of other events.

“Obviously for any senior racing it would need government approval and things were looking promising on that front before the cancellation of pilot events with crowds.

“We still have time to work on things but the most important factor here is that we will be seeing some racing at Leicester this year despite the cancellation of league racing.”
