LEICESTER youngster Joe Thompson took victory in Sunday’s third round of the British Youth Championship at King’s Lynn.
Thompson, who had finished second behind twin brother Dan on his home track last weekend, made no mistake in the Final at the Adrian Flux Arena to head home Harry McGurk and Elliot Kelly.
But there was frustration for Dan on this occasion, as an engine problem left him stranded on the start-line as the other competitors raced away.
Both Thompsons had scored 11 points from a possible 12 in the qualifying races, Joe dropping his only point to Dan in Heat 5, whilst Dan was headed by McGurk in Heat 9.
The result means the two Lions riders have an identical record from the three rounds of the series so far – with a win, a second and a fourth place apiece.
That means they could be set for a head-to-head showdown for the British Youth title if the October 10 round at Belle Vue proves to be the last of the year.
Joe said: “We’ve been really working hard in the workshop trying to get everything sorted, and I’ve had some really good help from Richard Maull, who’s helped out mechanicing.
“I’ve learnt a lot over the last few weeks, and hopefully it’s all starting to pay off now.
“I think Dan seized his engine on the start-line, so we’ll take a look at that before Monday at Scunthorpe.”
