LEICESTER’S teenage twins Dan and Joe Thompson are taking the positives from their British Final debut.
The 16-year-old duo were called into the event when riders became unavailable and didn’t let themselves down with some impressive rides.
It was always going to be a tough night as they faced the likes of triple World Champion Jason Crump, former British Champions Chris Harris and Danny King and eventual winner Rory Schlein.
Dan said: “I’ve always seemed to struggle round there a little bit, but on Monday it was kind of expected anyway as they were a lot more experienced riders than us – but it was still good to be almost on the pace with them!”
Joe added: “I really enjoyed the experience. Obviously it was tough for us because we’ve never raced at this level before, but there’s a lot of positives to take away from it.
“I think if our gating was a bit more consistent we maybe could have scored a couple more points each.”
The duo look set to return to Manchester for the British Youth Championship on Saturday week, October 10 where they will do battle for the title.
