THREE Leicester riders have big meetings over the next two nights.
Talented teenage twins Dan and Joe Thompson face the long journey north to Berwick tonight (Wednesday) for the British Under-21 Final.
And tomorrow Kyle Howarth will ride in his first meeting for a year as he takes his place at Belle Vue for the Peter Craven Memorial Trophy.
The Thompsons have enjoyed track time this year with the British Youth Championship, the British Under 19 Final and Leicester’s trip to Scunthorpe in August for a National League challenge match.
They’ll be up against riders ahead of them in their development with Under-19 champion Drew Kemp included alongside fully fledged GB international Dan Bewley of Belle Vue.
Meanwhile Howarth insists he’s going to Belle Vue with an open mind as he looks to enjoy some racing for the first time this year.
The event comes seven weeks after he had surgery on his troublesome shoulder and he came through a practice at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena last week.
He said: “I’m buzzing to be back on the bike after even months off and a year without racing. “I’m not going there with any high expectations, I’m just going to have some fun, try and score as many points as possible and I’m happy to be mixing back with the boys.”
Triple World Champion Jason Crump, British Champion Rory Schlein, former Grand Prix riders Chris Harris and Troy Batchelor and World Under-21 Champion Jaimon Lidsey are all included in the field.
The Peter Craven memorial will be streamed live with passes available from sportcentral.tv with the racing starting at 7.30.
The British Under-21, which will be live streamed via Berwick’s youtube channel ‘Bandits TV’ as it will be raced behind closed doors like Belle Vue.
