OWNERS THANK STAFF

LEICESTER co-owner Damien Bates has paid tribute to club officials who have worked hard during a tough year.

Just one competitive meeting was possible in the 2020 season as the club staged a round of the British Youth Championship behind closed doors.

But the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena still had plenty of use with regular private practice sessions, including a full day with the Watling JCB Lions’ Championship rivals Poole.

Triple World Champion Jason Crump also took charge of coaching sessions as did former Leicester favourite Danny King.

Said Bates: “It’s great for us as owners, based up in South Yorkshire, to know Leicester as a club can run itself.

“Despite no league racing this year there was still plenty of work to do and I must say bringing Stewart Dickson in as our team manager and co-promoter was the best move we have made.

“Stewart is always thinking and always working hard at solutions to problems and his enthusiasm is a massive asset for Leicester Speedway.

“But I must mention Alan and Linda Jones who do so much work behind the scenes along with Karen Hudson and her team who ensure training days go smoothly. We cannot run Leicester Speedway without these fine people.”

Bates and his fellow British Speedway board members are now looking at potential fixture lists for next season with the possibility of an Easter weekend season launch. All eyes, for now, though are on football and when fans can return to elite sport.
