LEICESTER favourite Ty Proctor says the club’s National Development League team is the key to the future.
Aussie ace Proctor insists the club’s owners should be congratulated for investing in the youngsters with crowd levels traditionally a fraction of Championship meetings at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena.
Proctor says the new Rising Star scheme which sees riders with limited experience promoted to Championship and Premiership teams means the NDL is more important than ever.
“I think it's a really good progression in the sport having the link between the Watling JCB Lions and the Roger Webster Lion Cubs,” he said. “The Bates family are in the position where they have seen Josh come through the National League, on to the Championship and then the Premiership.
“The way British Speedway is heading it’s vital to see more home grown talent coming through the system and it’s good to see more clubs joining the NDL.
“I’ll try and make a few meetings to pass on some advice to the boys if my schedule allows.”
Joe Lawlor, one of the top riders in the Roger Webster Lion Cubs side, has landed a Championship place with Edinburgh after losing his spot at Redcar.
“I was always confident of getting a place somewhere but thought I may have to wait a bit,” he said. “I just can’t wait to get going now.”
