BIKES HEADING BACK TO LEICESTER

LEICESTER are set to reopen their doors in May with a capacity they are happy to work with.

The club have been in dialogue with council officials regarding the return to racing at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena in line with the government roadmap including fans heading back to venues.

Co-promoter Stewart Dickson has described discussions as ‘extremely positive’ and that council officials have visited the site to assess covid compliance.

“Half the seats in the home straight stands will be available,” he said. “And we have vast space all around the rest of the stadium as people are well aware.

“Our discussions with the council have been extremely positive and we are working with them to ensure the smooth return of fans to the venue.

“The ACU (Auto Cycle Union) have also produced a comprehensive document for the return of professional speedway and the council have been presented with this.

“We are happy with the reduced capacity we are being advised on, it can enable us to meet our budgets and work as a successful business model in these difficult times.

“There are things we have to do at the stadium which we will do, of course, and then we will be good to go with the return of speedway in May.

“Personally I’m extremely excited by the prospect of getting back to it, I’ve missed it badly and I’m sure our fans have too.”

The first meeting back at the Beaumont Park venue is Wednesday May 19 when the National League side, the Roger Webster Lion Cubs, face Eastbourne.

And the Watling JCB Lions open their Championship home campaign on Saturday May 22 against Edinburgh.
