LEICESTER skipper Kyle Howarth is relishing the prospect of linking up with charismatic boss Stewart Dickson.
Howarth is preparing for his first season in the Watling JCB Lions colours after originally joining the club a year ago before the 2020 season was cancelled.
Now he’s ready to go after doing some laps at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena and he has also had a session at King’s Lynn.
He said: “I’m looking forward to working with Stewart, he has a good reputation as a manager and he’s ambitious.
“He wants to win trophies like he did in 2019 and I know about winning the league with Sheffield in 2017 and Wolverhampton the previous year.
“He put a great team together here at Leicester in 2019 and they got the job done. As soon as they approached me to join Leicester it was a no brainer with me looking for a new Championship club.
“He’s done it again for this year, looking down our team we look pretty strong from top to bottom.”
Howarth admitted he was delighted to take on the captaincy when Dickson approached him – but he expects an easy job!
“I was really happy when Stewart called me and asked if I would take on the captaincy,” he said.
“I look at the other lads and riders like Nick (Morris) and Dougy (Ryan Douglas) don’t need me to tell them what to do, they are great riders and good lads too.
“I think we’ll all gel nicely, have a good team spirit and we can be up there challenging again I’m confident of that.”
Speedway returns to the Beaumont Park venue on Wednesday May 19 when the National League side face Eastbourne.
And the first Championship action in 19 months is on Saturday May 22 against Edinburgh. Saturday meetings will start at 7pm this season.
