PREVIEW: LION CUBS V ARMADALE (NDL)

15-YEAR-OLD Ben Trigger makes his Leicester debut in Saturday’s National Development League home fixture against Armadale (7pm).

Trigger signed for the Roger Webster Lion Cubs over the winter but has had to wait to get on track with the reigning champions, although he has been with the team for practice sessions and was in the pits for their opening meeting.

Now having celebrated his birthday on Thursday, he becomes eligible to race in the NDL and lines up at reserve against the Devils for his first appearance in an official league match.

Trigger said: “I’ll probably be a little bit nervous at the start, but I’m really excited to get out there and race.

“Then once the first ride is done, I’ll be able to go forward from there.”

Trigger for James Chattin is the only change for the Cubs from their opening win over Eastbourne, with rider-replacement still in operation for the injured Jamie Halder.

Armadale are newcomers to the NDL this year and have already raced three matches, winning one and losing two, including a surprise home defeat to Newcastle earlier this month.

They are led by the experienced Nathan Greaves and have one of the sensations of the season so far in newcomer George Rothery, who has collected scores of 11+2, 15 and 12 from multiple rides at reserve.

Saturday’s meeting will be the first appearance at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena for Rothery along with the Millar bothers, Lewis and Gregor.

Cubs boss Dave Howard said: “I’ve watched some of Armadale’s meetings online, and George Rothery has certainly been impressive - it will be interesting to see how he goes around here!”

Supporters are reminded that tickets must be purchased online in advance of the meeting, with all the details at http://www.leicesterspeedway.com/ticketoffice .
