CAPTAIN KYLE READY TO ROAR

LEICESTER captain Kyle Howarth has declared himself fit for Friday’s Championship trip to Edinburgh.

Howarth crashed in his opening ride of the Watling JCB Lions’ home win over Berwick last Sunday, although he rode on for the rest of the meeting and scored an important eight points.

However, he was in discomfort with his wrist and missed his Premiership fixture for Sheffield at Wolverhampton on Monday.

Hospital x-rays thankfully revealed no broken bones, but soft tissue damage with bruising, and he is now ready to race at Armadale followed by Saturday’s home KO Cup clash with Scunthorpe.

Josh Bates, who rode at Wolverhampton on Monday but crashed out of that meeting, is expected to be fit following an intensive day of testing and practice at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena on Thursday.

Dickson said: “It was a concern when Kyle crashed on Sunday, but he dusted himself down and helped us towards the victory over Berwick.

“He had to get things checked out after that and late on Thursday he’s informed us he is fit to race.

“It’s an important weekend for us and how we perform in the two meetings should also give me a good indication of what’s required going forward.”

Edinburgh have started the season with two tight home matches, drawing against Redcar and then narrowly defeating Newcastle in the KO Cup before winning more convincingly on the road in the second leg at Brough Park.

The Monarchs include former Lions star Richie Worrall and current Lion Cubs captain Joe Lawlor.

Watling JCB Lions fans should note that they will be able to access live-streaming of the meeting, and passes can be booked from https://www.edinburghmonarchs.co.uk/emtv .

Meanwhile tickets are still available for Saturday’s home match against Scunthorpe, where the Lions will look to book their place in the next round of the Cup holding a 14-point advantage from the home leg.

EDINBURGH: Sam Masters, Nathan Greaves, Kye Thomson, Josh Pickering, Richie Worrall, Joe Lawlor, William Lawson.
