ALL SQUARE IN CUBS THRILLER

LEICESTER’S Thompson twins saved the day with a last gasp race advantage to draw 45-45 with Mildenhall in their latest National Development League outing.

Going into the all-important Heat 15 Mildenhall held a two-point advantage with high hopes of an away win.

They set up a last heat decider with in-form reserve Sam Hagon and Luke Ruddick getting a 5-1 to put them 43-41 up with one heat left.

But Roger Webster Cubs No.1 Dan Thompson completed his maximum with the win in the final race while brother Joe got the better of Jason Edwards for a 4-2 to secure a draw and send the fans home happy.

Leicester held a six-point lead in the first half of the meeting at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena (Beaumont Park) but Mildenhall always had enough strength to bounce back.

Dan Thompson said: “It was a brilliant meeting for myself. I was very consistent with my gating tonight and I felt like I had a lot of speed out on track.

“I had to make a few passes but I’m very confident in my equipment and I have ridden here long enough to figure out the lines by now.

“Watching the more experienced boys doing it week in, week out always helps too!

“As a team we had a few problems tonight with a few crashes and bike problems along the way but we all pulled together showing that we have the strength to come back.”

Leicester’s senior team are back in action at home on Saturday when they gave Redcar in a mouthwatering Championship contest. Tickets are on sale with full details on the club website.
