KYLE Howarth has secured a return to Leicester for their 2022 Championship season.
Howarth, who is set to continue as skipper, was keen to stay with the club and his return is no major surprise.
It means one place remains to be filled with Nick Morris, Richie Worrall, Dan Thompson, Connor Mountain, Joe Thompson and Howarth now confirmed.
The Watling JCB Lions will again be racing on regular Saturday evenings at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena from next spring and fans are excited by the way the team is shaping up.
Howarth said: “I’m well pleased to be going back to Leicester because I enjoyed it there last season.
“I like everything about the club and it was a no brainer for me when the chance was there for me to go back in 2022.
“We’re looking like a good team again, Richie Worrall is a great signing and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in.
“I’m excited about next season with all the news out over the last few weeks about teams coming together and the return of Oxford is awesome for the sport.
“We had a pretty good season in 21, so I’m hoping we can build on that and improve that little bit more and win something next year.
“The Leicester fans are brilliant, they create a great atmosphere at home and that helps us.”
Boss Stewart Dickson is pleased to have Howarth back as captain of the side.
He said: “I think he did that job pretty well this year, and we certainly can’t attach any blame to him for us not landing silverware.
“He did his bit as much as anyone else, and having been around the scene and won trophies at this level I’d desperately like to see him lifting a trophy for the Lions next season.”
The Beaumont Park side are set to announce a new signing within the next week.
