LION CUBS NAME FIRST SIGNING

LEICESTER have completed the signing of Connor Coles to kick off their National Development League team building.

27-year-old Coles joins the Lion Cubs after spending the 2021 season with Belle Vue, and will add a degree of experience to the side – as well as having significant potential to improve.

He averaged 6.04 with the Colts but significantly his away figure was around a point and a half higher than what he achieved in home matches at the National Speedway Stadium.

Despite a Heat 1 fall, Coles scored 8+1 against Leicester at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena in October, and also won two races in a guest appearance for the Lion Cubs in their home draw with Berwick in early June as he picked up eight points from four rides.

He has extensive knowledge of many of the NDL circuits, including a three-year spell with Mildenhall from 2014-16, and comes from a rich racing history with both father Michael and grandfather Bob being former riders with lengthy associations with Exeter in particular.

Cubs boss Dave Howard said: “It is a delight to welcome Connor to the Lion Cubs. His riding and scoring ability together with his great personality makes him a really positive addition to the team in all aspects.

“That includes strengthening the team further at the top end as we set the aim of challenging for honours.”

Club bosses have made good progress on rider discussions with the NDL points limit having been set at 40 during the recent AGM.

They expect to be in a position to have the full Lion Cubs’ side named by early in the New Year.
