TALENTED teenager Dan Thompson wants to play a part in a league title charge with Leicester this summer.
Thompson will start the season in the main body of the team after an impressive debut year in 2021.
He was pleased with the progress he made and is looking to build on that.
He said: “It was good, I thought the Championship would be very, very hard and it was but I’m pleased with what I did.
“I think I made good progress and it’s something I want to build on this year. I’m really looking forward to it.
“I think we look good at Leicester but there’s some good teams so hopefully we can all do well and challenge for some trophies.”
Thompson went close in the British Under-19 Final last season finishing runner-up to Drew Kemp.
And as the Watling JCB Lions rider can do two more of those meetings he’s aiming for gold.
“I had a good meeting, scored loads of points but just missed out,” he said.
“I’ll be back to try and win it this year, that’s for sure. I want to win national titles.”
The Watling JCB Lions launch their season against Birmingham in the Knockout Cup on Saturday March 26 (7pm).
Meanwhile the club’s press and practice is set to take place the previous day, March 25, with media activities from 3.30 before riders take to the track around 5pm. Spectators will be welcome from 5pm onwards.
