GREAT Britain youth boss Neil Vatcher is urging Leicester twins Dan and Joe Thompson to follow their dreams.
Both Watling JCB Lions have been seeded through to the British Under-21 Final at Birmingham on August 24 which means they avoid the tricky qualifying round.
Vatcher points to the successful trio at the Speedway of Nations last October who lifted gold for Great Britain – Robert Lambert, Dan Bewley and Tom Brennan have all been through the youth system.
“We have a talented bunch of young riders now and Dan and Joe are included in that,” he said.
“The Speedway of Nations success was remarkable considering Great Britain were without triple World Champion Tai Woffinden after his crash on the first day.
“I wasn’t involved on the day, but the three riders that clinched the title were the last three British Under-21 Champions, which is something I’m very proud of myself.
“We’ve tried to get the boys out to Europe as much as we possibly can, to gain the experience against the top young riders from their age groups, and now we are competing at the very top level of World speedway.
“We’re winning medals and trophies on an annual basis now, which a few years ago we weren’t doing, so I’m sure everyone can see the progress that the whole of British Speedway has made.
“We have a big year ahead with lots to look forward to.”
The Watling JCB Lions launch their season against Birmingham in the Knockout Cup on Saturday March 26 (7pm).
Meanwhile the club’s press and practice is set to take place the previous day, March 25, with media activities from 3.30 before riders take to the track around 5pm. Spectators will be welcome from 5pm onwards.
