LIONS V SCUNTHORPE, PREVIEW

LEICESTER’S KO Cup clash with Scunthorpe at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena on Saturday (7pm) will now be the first leg of the quarter-final tie.

Friday’s meeting between the sides at the Eddie Wright Raceway was abandoned after two races due to lack of medical cover following a serious incident involving Scorpions guest reserve Joe Alcock.

He suffered a suspected broken femur in a crash on the third lap of Heat 2, and after lengthy treatment an air ambulance was called, although Alcock eventually left the stadium via the main track ambulance.

The meeting was then abandoned with the Watling JCB Lions 7-5 up thanks to a 4-2 in Heat 1 as Dan Thompson took an impressive race victory.

That race had also been re-started after both Scorpions riders, Ryan Douglas and Jordan Palin, came down on the first bend.

Home skipper Simon Lambert passed Joe Thompson and Anders Rowe to lead Heat 2, which was awarded after Alcock’s crash, which turned out to be the end of racing for the night.

Leicester Speedway wish Joe Alcock the very best for his recovery, and hope his injuries are not too severe.

The teams meet again at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena on Saturday for the new first leg (7pm) and a new date will be found for the Lions to return to Scunthorpe.

The Scorpions will be without Douglas, who aggravated a shoulder injury in the Heat 1 crash, whilst Justin Sedgmen guests for Tero Aarnio who has been banned for 14 days after failing to appear on Friday following the FIM Long Track of Nations in Germany the previous day. Former Lion Cubs rider Jamie Halder takes Alcock’s intended place at reserve.

Supporters are reminded that Saturday’s meeting is outside the season ticket package, and these are therefore not valid on the night.

LEICESTER: Richie Worrall, Dan Thompson, Nick Morris, Connor Mountain, Kyle Howarth, Anders Rowe, Joe Thompson.
SCUNTHORPE: TBC, Jordan Palin, Zaine Kennedy, Jake Allen, Justin Sedgmen, Jamie Halder, Simon Lambert.
