FRICKE RUNNER-UP AT ALBURY

LEICESTER’S Max Fricke finished in second place in Saturday’s second round of the Australian Championship at Albury.

Fricke is now third in the overall standings, five points adrift of leader Jason Doyle after the 2017 World Champion took his second meeting victory of the series.

The qualifying races saw Fricke rack up 14 points to lead the scoreboard, dropping his only point to Brady Kurtz in Heat 18.

He then defeated Doyle for a second time when they met in the semi-final – but it was Doyle who had the edge in the Final, with Josh Pickering and Kurtz completing the top four on the night.

Justin Sedgmen also put in another strong display, having come in as a full-time series rider after initially racing as a wild card in the first round.

Sedgmen scored nine points at Albury, including two race wins, before going out in the second semi-final.

Doyle leads the overall standings on 33 points ahead of Jack Holder on 29 and Fricke on 28, with Sedgmen in fifth place on 22. The series continues at Kurri Kurri on Monday.
