LION CUBS V BELLE VUE, PREVIEW

LEICESTER have called up two guest replacements for their National Development League home clash with Belle Vue on Saturday (7pm).

Lion Cubs No.1 Dan Thompson and reserve Vinnie Foord both miss the match at the Pidcock Motorcycles Arena, Beaumont Park after crashes in the last week.

Thompson is serving a mandatory 12-day period on the sidelines after suffering concussion in the Watling JCB Lions’ win at Peterborough on Monday, and his place is taken by the experienced Adam Roynon who has made a strong start to the NDL season with Edinburgh.

Meanwhile Foord is still awaiting the results of an MRI scan on the wrist injury he picked up in last week’s victory over Kent, and former Lion Cubs rider Kai Ward comes in from the list of unattached 3.00 riders to guest.

The remainder of the Cubs’ side will be present as normal, with 15-year-old Ashton Boughen continuing his excellent form with a dominant display to win Wednesday’s British Youth round at Birmingham.

The Colts have won their opening three home matches despite showing several changes to last year’s team, and whilst they await their first points on the road there is plenty of potential in their side.

Skipper Jack Smith offers plenty of experience whilst Sam Hagon has advanced to the No.1 berth after a string of high scores, and there is more heat-leader strength with James Pearson who also races for Birmingham at Championship level.

Cubs manager Dave Howard said: “Belle Vue have a strong team with a high-potential line-up, so this will be a tough battle as we look to put on another strong home performance.

“With the NDL being so strong and even this season, we will be giving everything in every home and away meeting to challenge for those top two league places and a place in the Grand Final.”

LEICESTER: Adam Roynon, Ashton Boughen, Max Perry, Tom Spencer, Joe Thompson, Kai Ward, Max James.
BELLE VUE: Sam Hagon, Matt Marson, Jack Smith, Freddy Hodder, James Pearson, Paul Bowen, Luke Muff.
