WORKINGTON V LION CUBS, PREVIEW

LEICESTER Lion Cubs will again be without Dan Thompson and Vinnie Foord for their National Development League trip to Workington on Saturday (3pm).

Cubs No.1 Thompson serves out the final day of his mandatory 12-day suspension from racing having suffered concussion in a crash at Peterborough on May 29.

Meanwhile Foord had hoped to make his comeback after crashing out of the home win against Kent a fortnight ago.

However, the results of an MRI scan earlier this week showed a fracture to his wrist, which has now been put into a cast, which unfortunately means he faces a period on the sidelines – which is naturally a frustration as he had been feeling improvement a week or so after the crash.

The Lion Cubs will in fact be unchanged at Northside from their win at home to Belle Vue, as Cumbrian-born Adam Roynon steps in to guest at No.1 once more whilst Kai Ward again fills Foord’s place at reserve.

The Comets also have a rider ruled out with concussion, with Elliot Kelly crashing out of their home defeat to Mildenhall last week.

However, Kelly’s new average moves him up into the main body of their side, and means they can operate rider replacement which will include outings for the likes of Ace Pijper and reserve duo Luke Harrison and Harry McGurk, which Harrison now re-declared into their side after an early season injury.

Cubs boss Dave Howard said: “We knew we were going to be without Dan and this is the last day of his concussion absence so he will be back racing next week.

“But it’s very unfortunate that Vinnie will now be out for a period of time, and we wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.

“Naturally we’re still travelling to Workington looking for the win, or if not then we want to keep things as close as possible for the aggregate point as those are going to be so important in such a strong league this season.”

WORKINGTON: Connor Bailey, Elliot Kelly R/R, Sam McGurk, Luke Crang, Ace Pijper, Luke Harrison, Harry McGurk.
LEICESTER: Adam Roynon, Ashton Boughen, Max Perry, Tom Spencer, Joe Thompson, Kai Ward, Max James.
