LEICESTER Lion Cubs are back on the road this Saturday when they make the long trip to Edinburgh in the National Development League (7pm).
The Lion Cubs welcome back Dan Thompson at No.1 after his recent concussion absence, and Ashton Boughen also returns to the side after missing last week’s meeting at Workington.
But they are without two riders elsewhere with Tom Spencer joining Vinnie Foord on the sidelines following his Heat 3 crash with Sam McGurk at Northside.
Spencer looks likely to be out for around two months whereas Foord may be back in three weeks as his wrist is improving although he is still in a cast.
The Cubs operate rider replacement for Spencer at Armadale with locally based Owen Booth coming in as the unattached three-pointer at reserve for Foord.
The Monarchs Academy have made changes of late with former Lions rider Max Clegg signing as a replacement for the retired Kyle Bickley.
That also meant ex-Cub Mickie Simpson losing his place, but with his average now at 3.00, Edinburgh can declare him as their No.8 with Alex Spooner out injured. As an Additional Rider under the 2023 regulations, Simpson’s outings are not limited to just rider replacement rides.
Cubs boss Dave Howard said: “Obviously they are stronger now they’ve got Max Clegg in, but we’ll be giving it everything to see if we can get the win.
“We’ll be pushing for it certainly because last Saturday even with the two riders we didn’t have, and the three races where we only had one rider, we were still pushing for the win with only three races to go.
“Rider replacement for Tom means Ashton can take a ride, and with the way Max James is coming on he can have a few as well.”
