THOMPSON THIRD AT GLASGOW

LEICESTER'S Dan Thompson finished third in Sunday's British Under-21 Final at Glasgow - and was so close to victory.

Thompson led into the last lap of an epic Ashfield finale, having gone past early leader Dan Gilkes on the first lap.

But Connor Bailey made his move on lap four with a strong pass on the inside which turned out to be the title-winning moment, whilst Anders Rowe then rounded Thompson to snatch second place.

Watling JCB Lions rider Drew Kemp also made it into the closing stages but was eliminated in the semi-final.

Meanwhile Thompson's Lion Cubs team-mate Ashton Boughen, the youngest rider in the field at 15, also performed with great credit against far more experienced riders to score six.

Max Perry was in attendance as meeting reserve, but unfortunately did not get a ride.

Thompson, Boughen and Perry will all be in action for the Lion Cubs in their next fixture at Kent on Sunday July 23, whilst Kemp races for the Lions this week at home to King's Lynn on Monday and away at the Adrian Flux Arena on Thursday.
