IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR

Magnus Karlsson’s testimonial meeting at the Beaumont Park Stadium on 17th March would not be complete without his two older brothers, Peter and Mikael who will be there to celebrate the occasion.

Their attendance will be the first time three brothers have raced at speedway’s newest stadium and possibly the first time together for a long time. “I think we all rode together at one stage, maybe in Sweden, but I am not too sure where and when” stated Peter. It will be the first time Mikael has seen the Leicester track and a rare appearance in this country because he has not ridden regularly in the UK since 2006 when he was last seen in British Speedway riding for the Lakeside Hammers.

Though for Peter, he came along to watch a meeting at Beaumont Park last season after Magnus signed for the Elliott sponsored Leicester Lions. Following in the footsteps of his two famous brothers was a hard task but Peter had this to say about his youngest sibling. “I don’t think it’s been particularly hard for Magnus to follow us, he is quite a bit younger than Mikael and I so I think he’s kind of done his own thing. I think he’s done pretty well for himself.”

Peter is the oldest of the three and in the twilight of a distinguished career that has seen him pick up a plethora of individual and team honours. The forty-two year old, who rode for Wolverhampton last year, will be riding for the Lakeside Hammers this season. “I’m very much looking forward to the season at Lakeside. I’m training pretty good now for the season. There’s no secret of eternal youth, it’s just about enjoying the sport” commented Peter.

Magnus is working closely with his Testimonial Committee and has decided that the meeting will take the form of a Four Team Tournament featuring a Leicester Select, Sweden Select, Rest of the World Select and a Magnus Karlsson Select.
