LIONS SIGN HUGHES

Jason Attwood has moved quickly to fill the vacancy left by the injury to Simon Nielsen who crashed in his last outing at Scunthorpe on Friday and this week he has agreed terms with Kyle Hughes to replace the Dane. Kyle had two very good meetings against Leicester last season, scoring 11 points at Beaumont Park and paid ten points on his home track in the return Premier League fixture.

“I want to thank Leicester Speedway for giving me this opportunity. I tried getting into Leicester during the winter because I really liked the track and everything about the club. I had a very hard year last year both at speedway and at home and was at a very low part in my life at times due to injury but I’ve seriously changed my outlook on everything” said Kyle.

“I have a 2 month old son to provide for now also and I’m really looking forward to getting my head down and getting my career back on top as I was starting to edge into the Elite League just a year ago so I know what level I can achieve and I would love to give Leicester and the fans and sponsors the best rider that I can be and I know that is achievable this year. Let’s just hope I can have an injury free run now! I’m very excited about the prospects, as I really thought I was hung out to dry this year”.
Hughes is set to make his debut for the Elliott UK Lions in the challenge match at Beaumont Park on Sunday against the Scunthorpe Scorpions. The two teams met a week ago at Scunthorpe where Leicester forced the home side into a last heat decider which ended with the North Lincolnshire club winning by a narrow margin of 46 points to 44. Along with the loss of Nielsen, Scunthorpe also ended the night with an injury when their young Australian rider Tom Armstrong crashed after his chain snapped just metres from the finishing line in the eleventh heat. With Armstrong out of the sport for several weeks, Scunthorpe are also seeking a replacement before Sunday’s fixture.

Teams:

Leicester: Lasse Bjerre, Simon Lambert, Kauko Nieminen, Jari Makinen, Magnus Karlsson, Jan Graversen and Kyle Hughes

Scunthorpe: David Howe, Thomas Jorgensen, Josh Auty, Michael Palm Toft, Tero Aarnio, and Ashley Birks

Fans will have an early opportunity to see Kyle Hughes for the first time by attending the Preview Show on Saturday at the Beaumont Park stadium. Gates will be open from 2.00pm and entry is free.
