LIONS V RYE HOUSE (LC) - PREVIEW

The Leicester Elliott sponsored Lions face the Rye House Rockets at the Beaumont Park Stadium on Saturday in a League Cup fixture and the first one hundred children who enter the stadium will be handed a free chocolate Easter egg!

The Lions are back to full strength with the return of Jari Mäkinen and Kyle Hughes to the team. Both riders missed last Saturday’s home meeting against Ipswich through injury. Mäkinen was suffering from an infection of a leg wound he picked up at Scunthorpe in the opening meeting of the season and Hughes was ruled out after a crash at Plymouth.

The Rockets have also had to contend with a disruption to their team plans after losing their captain Chris Neath following a crash in the Anglian Cup and will be without their exciting teenager Tyson Nelson who has not arrived from Australia yet due to a technical error over his visa application. The Hertfordshire club have filled the vacancies by signing the high scoring Dane Charlie Gjedde and Anders Mellgren. Both riders were looking for a team place in the Premier League after Newport withdrew from the league on the eve of the season. It will be an early return to Leicester for Jason Garrity after his transfer to the Hertfordshire club during the winter. Garrity made ten appearances for the Lions and it came as no surprise when he elected to sign for Rye House, the scene of the teenager’s finest moments in the sport so far after winning the National League Riders’ Final and the British Under-19 Championship last season.

Teams:

Leicester: Lasse Bjerre, Simon Lambert, Kauko Nieminen, Jari Mäkinen, Magnus Karlsson, Jan Graversen and Kyle Hughes

Rye House: Charlie Gjedde, Ritchie Hawkins, Anders Mellgren, Luke Bowen, Jordan Frampton, Jason Garrity and Jason Bunyan
