BRITISH YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP, ROUND 1 - PREVIEW

The top young British Speedway riders in the country will be racing at Leicester’s Beaumont Park Stadium on Saturday in the British Youth Championship. The series begins at Leicester with further rounds planned at Mildenhall, Northside, Eastbourne, Scunthorpe and Sittingbourne during the season.

Last year’s winner of the British Championship, Nathan Stoneman begins his defence in the 500cc class and will start as favourite to retain his title. The teenager is making good progress in the sport and recently secured a team place at Mildenhall who ride in the National League. Tyler Govier, who made his track debut at Leicester two weeks ago for Long Eaton, will be competing and based on his first appearance at Beaumont Park is tipped to be amongst the forerunners.
It will be a busy day for Nathan Greaves who was last year’s winner of the 250cc class. Just turned fourteen years of age, Nathan won five out of six rounds last season with his only blemish coming at Sittingbourne where he fell when leading in the final. The Chesterfield born racer is set to defend his title and has also entered the 500cc category.

“I am really looking forward to Saturday’s meeting as it gives the club the opportunity to look at the young up and coming British riders. Maybe one or two of the field will catch my eye and could be a Lions rider in the future. These lads would be a great asset to Leicester and British Speedway! I think it’s a must for any local fan to get to Beaumont Park on Saturday and watch these lads race,” commented Leicester Team Manager Jason Attwood.

With the best British riders of their age on show and a meeting consisting of 36 heats of speedway, the admission price of five pounds for adults and all children under the age of sixteen in for free comprises exceptional value for a Saturday night out.

The event gets under way with practice laps for all the competitors at 7.10pm and the meeting starts at 7.30pm.

The postponed League Cup fixture away at Rye House will now take place on Saturday 19th May with a 7.00pm start.
