ROYNON PLANNING RETURN

It was just the news that Adam Roynon has been waiting for when he received confirmation last week that he has been given the all-clear following an injury sustained whilst representing his parent club the Coventry Bees in March.

Roynon made just one appearance for Leicester in the League Cup fixture at Scunthorpe before the accident and is now preparing to begin practising soon and is targeting a return to the track in Kauko Nieminen’s Testimonial Meeting at Leicester on Sunday 2nd June. “We are all really pleased that Adam has no lasting injury and that he is hoping to be back soon. My Testimonial meeting is an ideal opportunity for him to ease his way back into the sport and I had no hesitation in asking him if he wanted to ride in my ‘Select’ team to face Leicester” commented the Lions captain Kauko Nieminen.

The line-up is now taking shape and Jari Mäkinen is the latest name to accept an invitation to celebrate Nieminen’s big day. Mäkinen rode for the Lions last season and during his spell at Leicester he pulled out of the bag some excellent rides at the Jordan Road Surfacing Stadium just when the Lions were in need of the points. “Jari and I have ridden together in many matches as we were not only teammates at Leicester but also in the Swedish Allsvenskan League for Rospiggarna and I know that he still has many friends amongst the Lions fans who I am sure will be pleased to see him again” added Nieminen.

There will be an element of nostalgia to savour on the day as Les Collins, the last captain of the old Lions era and a former World number two, will be completing a number of demonstration laps of the Leicester track.
