LIONS ENTER NATIONAL TROPHY

The Rapid Solicitors Leicester Lions will be entering new territory this season. The club have decided to run a team in the National Trophy competition which will comprise of a mini-league encompassing Leicester, Kent, Mildenhall and Stoke with each team racing one another home and away. The top two teams will then battle it out for the trophy in a Grand Final to be staged over two legs.

“This is of course a new venture for the club and an exciting one at that. It gives us entry into the third tier without committing ourselves to a full programme of league racing and we can gauge from the three home meetings whether there is support for National League racing in Leicester” commented the Lions Promoter David Hemsley.

“Leicester will have the pick of the National League to choose from when building their team with the exception of riders from the three clubs in the competition. “We are hoping to stage our home meetings on Sundays with a start-time of 4.00pm. Wherever possible we would like to include Tom Perry and Max Clegg in the team along with perhaps some riders who rode for us last season in the Premier League to give the side a feel of being as close as possible a Leicester team” added Hemsley.

The three National Trophy fixtures will be included on the 2014 season ticket offer, making a total of twenty-four home meetings. Admission prices on the day and dates of the home and away fixtures will be released shortly.
