LIONS 42 PETERBOROUGH 48 (ILC)

The Peterborough Panthers overturned Leicester’s 8 point lead to win the Inter-League Challenge match at the Jordan Road Surfacing Stadium last night.

Heat wins for Mads Korneliussen, Simon Stead and a trio of firsts for Patrick Hougaard put the Rapid Solicitors Lions in control but gradually the visitors whittled down the home teams advantage to end the match winners by 48 points to 42.

“Whilst the result was a disappointment, the purpose of the fixture was to give our riders track time in a competitive meeting. We deliberately resisted the temptation to fill Jason Doyle’s position with a guest rider as that would have defeated the object of the exercise and so we went with the rider replacement facility to give additional rides to four of the team. We are a new team with no home track advantage at the moment so our riders were as much the away team as Peterborough but that will come quickly and we can take some positives from the meeting, in particular the form of Patrick Hougaard who would have added to his thirteen points had he not fallen in the last race of the night” commented the Lions Promoter David Hemsley.

Scorers:

Leicester 42 points: Jason Doyle (rider replacement), Peter Ljung 9+1, Mads Korneliussen 11+2, Simon Stead 5+1, Patrick Hougaard 13, Tom Perry 4 and Max Clegg 0

Peterborough 48 points: Ryan Fisher 6+1, Aaron Summers 4+2, Lasse Bjerre 8, Ulrich Ostergaard 8, Nick Morris 6+1, Joe Jacobs 8+2 and Oliver Greenwood 8
