Speedway comes under the spotlight on Monday when the first ever televised live meeting takes place at the Jordan Road Surfacing Stadium.
The Leicester Lions are in action against the Eastbourne Eagles in what is an historic occasion for the club who stepped up into the Elite League this year. “We have been looking forward to this fixture since the decision was made to film the meeting. The Sky Sports production team do such a good job in presenting speedway to a worldwide audience and of course the television exposure will help to promote Leicester as a destination” commented the Lions Promoter David Hemsley.
Eastbourne, who last won the league championship fourteen years ago, are heading for their best finish since 2011 as the team have worked their way into the play-off zone on the back of a robust home record. When the two teams last met at Leicester in April it was the Rapid Solicitors Lions who came out on top with a 49 points to 41 win. Whilst the visitors have remained faithful to the same seven riders that began the season the Lions have made three changes to their side. “A team makeover takes time to come to fruition which of course was partly forced upon us by the decision of Peter Ljung and Patrick Hougaard to leave British Speedway. I believe that we have now reached a position of where we want to be in terms of the side and as long as we stay clear of injuries then we can look forward to an improvement in results in the second half of the season. Last week’s match against Belle Vue was high in entertainment and I am expecting Monday’s match to be just as absorbing. Eastbourne are a top side with a number of quality riders in their midst and I feel that we are as equally competitive now” added Hemsley.
Admission prices for Monday’s Elite League clash between Leicester and Eastbourne in front of the television cameras have been reduced to £10 for adults, £5 for children aged between ten and fifteen and £20 for a family ticket comprising of two adults and up to two children as a way of thanking fans for their continued support of the club and an incentive for people who have never watched a speedway meeting before to come along to see what the sport is all about.
